We aim to prepare each camper for a smooth transition to the new school year with an engaging, theme-based curriculum in coed, grade-specific classrooms.

Each session of Morning Academics begins with a basic review of concepts from the previous grade level. Teachers differentiate instruction and reinforce common themes, standards and expectations from the prior school year to help solidify existing skill sets and knowledge bases. As camp progresses, the focus shifts to reflect a curriculum that campers can expect in the coming year, with an emphasis on math and language arts. A fully integrated Digital Literacy & Design program is available for campers in the Morning Academics program, with full access to the Unkefer Spark Studio makerspace, where students will explore, design, engineer and tinker.

The program provides a comfortable setting for making new friends and building upon existing relationships. All campers are informally assessed, and feedback is shared with families throughout the session. Campers leave the program having gained valuable experience and confidence that prepares them for a smooth transition into the next grade level.

All campers are invited to join the afternoon Young at Heart Recreation Camp, where students enjoy a variety of grade-appropriate rotations. Past rotations have included science, art, movement, filmmaking, gymnastics, yoga, West African percussion, engineering and tinkering. For those who stay, lunch will begin at 12 p.m.

Gr. 5–8 Morning Academics

Grade Level: Entering Grades 5–8

Our NEW program for students entering Grades 5–8 is designed to offer an exciting and engaging learning opportunity that will keep their minds active and growing.

Students will experience a schedule similar to what they encounter during the school year. Classes are grouped by grade level, and students will enjoy two instructional blocks each day. Each block offers students the opportunity to explore academic subjects they’ve previously engaged with and deepen their understanding.

Students will be enrolled in the following possible classes:

• Math (Grade Appropriate)
• English (Creative Writing)
• Organization & Study Skills

Multi-sensory Literacy Program (MSLP)

Mornings: 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
Grade Level: Entering Grades 1–4

Our Orton-Gillingham-based literacy program is designed to support incoming first, second, third and fourth grade students who are progressing toward grade-level expectations in the areas of reading, spelling and writing.

Class time will focus on developing and reinforcing foundational skills such as encoding and decoding sounds and syllable types, ultimately working towards sentence fluency and comprehension. The class uses multi-sensory strategies that are sequential in nature, providing repetition for the learning and consolidation of skills. Classes are led by qualified reading specialists or instructors.

Students must be referred to the program by their teacher or learning specialist to qualify. Please fill out this form to submit supporting documentation, including your child’s most recent report card and a letter of recommendation from your child’s teacher or learning specialist.

Gr. K–4 Young at Heart Recreation Camp

Afternoon Session: 12–4 p.m.
Grade Level:  Entering Kindergarten–Grade 4

In coed, age-appropriate groups, campers participate in a variety of daily rotations, while enjoying theme-based dress-up days, scavenger hunts, talent shows, special guest performances, camp carnivals and more.

Campers fully utilize the school’s expansive facilities in their daily rotations by experiencing athletics, creative arts, science and technology all in one afternoon. This environment sets the foundation for each camper to be authentic while building meaningful connections with teachers, counselors and peers. Each week will end with a “Fun Friday” event that will leave campers with many wonderful memories.

Gr. 5–8 Afternoon Recreation Camp

Afternoon Session: 12:30–5:00 p.m.
Grade Level:  Entering Grade 5–8

Our NEW program for students entering Grades 5–8 is designed to offer an engaging and experiential learning opportunity that will keep their minds active and growing.

In coed, age-appropriate groups, campers fully utilize the school’s expansive facilities in their daily rotations. Our program places a significant emphasis on hands-on exploration and experiential education. By offering a diverse array of activities and skill-building rotations (Ex: physical education, team games, outdoor excursions, cooking, photography, etc....) campers are encouraged to foster essential teamwork and leadership skills.

The goal for every aspect of our program is to spark curiosity and build a continuous love for learning. We have curated programs designed to engage students in interactive education, where they can explore various subjects through immersive activities and experiments.

Each week will end with a “Field Trip Friday” event that will complement the camper's experience with field trips to local landmarks, museums, parks, and cultural institutions. These experiential outings provide students with invaluable opportunities to broaden their horizons, cultivate new interests, and forge lasting memories in the company of their peers.
