Heart to Heart Program
The Heart to Heart program supports the mission of Sacred Heart education and connects students and families with other local communities and organizations to broaden horizons and experiences for everyone.
Heart to Heart brings together Convent & Stuart Hall students and children from surrounding communities and nearby schools with activities and programs designed to promote friendship and understanding. The program includes peer to peer service and advocacy opportunities as well as initiatives that create a bridge to neighborhood organizations and the people they serve.
Below is a snapshot of the different Heart to Heart initiatives the school sustains every year.
Summer Reading Program
The Heart to Heart Summer Reading Program is a trifold partnership between community centers in the Western Addition, Convent & Stuart Hall and USF. Hosted and supported on the Convent & Stuart Hall campus, the program is taught by USF master’s level teachers along with co-educators from three respective community centers. The main objective is to deliver a literacy program to youth with the aim of preventing the summer reading slide and promoting skills retention among K–8 students each summer for five weeks. The camp serves about 200 students each summer. Convent & Stuart Hall provides structural support that includes but is not limited to: learning space, technology, support staff, meals, learning resources and high school volunteers who assist the teachers and work directly with younger students.
Backpack Drive
At the start of every school year, the Convent & Stuart Hall community endeavors to support students and families in the Western Addition with back to school resources that include hundreds of backpacks and school supplies.
Peer Tutoring
Seventh and eighth graders are selected and trained to tutor students from our neighboring community on the Broadway campus weekly. Convent & Stuart Hall provides transportation to and from community centers in the Western Addition, as well as oversight of the program and its tutors.
Heart to Heart Benefit Concert
Held in the spring, this special evening event featuring Convent & Stuart Hall student performances and participation from kids in the Western Addition, as well as guest appearances from faculty and alumni, raises funds for neighborhood organizations.
High School Interfaith Holiday Party
During the winter season, Convent & Stuart Hall high school students gather together for a holiday evening of activities with other interfaith-based high schools in the Western Addition neighborhood.
Holiday Toy Drive
Each student is invited to bring in a new, unwrapped gift for a child of the same age/gender. Gifts are delivered to the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center in the Western Addition.
