2024–25 High School Course Catalog

The high school curriculum engages and challenges the whole person — in mind, Heart and body. The Grade 9 and 10 curricula invite the development of essential foundations in core knowledge and skills. In Grades 11 and 12, students can elect to take the comprehensive International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or they can choose a two-year sequence of college preparatory and AP courses. Each student is encouraged to explore all academic department course requirements to the fullest extent possible.

Graduation Requirements and Course Sequence

In order to graduate from Convent & Stuart Hall, students must complete the following graduation requirements.

In order to graduate from Convent & Stuart Hall, students must complete the following graduation requirements.

English Language & Literature | 4 years
Mathematics | 3 years; 4 years recommended
Laboratory Science* | 3 years
Modern & Classical Language | 3 years or up to Level 3
History & Social Science | 3 years
Religion, Theology & Spirituality | 3.5 years (3 years plus 1 semester)
Visual & Performing Arts | 2 semesters of Visual or Performing Art

*The graduation requirement is three years of laboratory science, with Physics in Grade 9 and Chemistry in Grade 10. We recommend Biology as a Grade 11 science so that students have the experience of three sciences in high school. Students who plan to continue their science at the university level, particularly those applying to pre-med programs, are strongly encouraged to complete the physics, chemistry, biology sequence. It should be noted that students who are applying to schools in the California State University system are required to complete a year of biological science in addition to a year of physical science.

Please note:

Students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in their junior and senior years take a comprehensive program of IB courses, combining three Standard Level courses (SL) and three Higher Level courses (HL). In this document, these courses have the designation IB SL or IB HL. All IB courses are only open to students enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme with exception of Theory of Knowledge which is a core part of the Grade 11 curricular experience.
Convent & Stuart Hall offers Summer Term Credits for Algebra, Biology, Coding, Geometry, History, Modern & Classical Language Level I, Physics, Theology, et al. as appropriate.
Swimming competency is strongly recommended in advance of the sophomore Costa Rica trip.
