[Video] As part of an ongoing cultural exchange, a delegation from the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco joined students and faculty to celebrate the Year of the Dog with a special show by performers from China's most northern province.
"It has been a special honor and privilege to develop a very strong educational relationship with the Chinese Consulate here in San Francisco." That's how President Ann Marie Krejcarek opened her remarks to an assembly of students and a delegation from the Chinese Consulate, which included Consul General Luo Liquan and his wife, Madame Qiao Li, before a Lunar New Year performance in Syufy Theatre.
Highlights from the performance for high school students.
As one of only six schools in the Bay Area to enjoy a show by The Heilongjiang Art Troupe of China, Convent & Stuart Hall elementary and high school students were awed by dancers, musicians and one very compelling magician. High school Mandarin students played an integral role in planning the event, translating the program into English and then introducing each act for the audience in both languages.
The performance represents the next chapter in an ongoing cultural exchange between our school and the Chinese Consulate, which runs a school of its own for children of Chinese diplomats. Dr. Krejcarek and Mr. Liquan both spoke at a reception following the performance, expressing a strong desire to continue growing the cross-cultural relationship. The morning concluded with the Chinese New Year custom of gift-giving.
