Community Celebrates New School Year with Mass of the Holy Spirit

Photos: The celebratory welcome to the new school year brought together community members for a service at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption.

On Thursday, September 19, the K–12 student body, faculty, alumni, parents, Trustees and the extended Convent & Stuart Hall community filled the beautiful Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The annual Mass, which marks the opening of the new school year, calls upon students and faculty to rededicate themselves to the educational mission of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Following opening remarks by President Ann Marie Krejcarek, school leaders, RSCJ, Trustees and students participated in an entrance procession. The Convent Elementary choir, as well as faculty instrumentalists, provided music throughout the program, including an original setting to Psalm 16 written by music teacher Grace Renaud.

An original song inspired by the school-year theme, Heritage. Lyrics by Grace Renaud.

The Mass was presided over by Monsignor John Talesfore, pastor of Saint Matthew Church in San Mateo, with other priests concelebrating. Student body presidents from all four divisions concluded the service, reflecting on the origins and charism of Sacred Heart education in the context of this year's theme, Heritage.
