Alexa Johnson Named New Head of Convent Elementary

Following a nationwide search, President Ann Marie Krejcarek announced Alexa Johnson as the next Division Head of Convent Elementary, effective July 1, 2020.

After conducting a nationwide search and narrowing a robust pool of candidates to four finalists, Convent & Stuart Hall has selected one of its own to be the new Division Head of Convent Elementary: Alexa Johnson.

Alexa started her teaching career in charter schools, where she worked as a first and third grade teacher in organizations dedicated to underserved populations. She joined Stuart Hall in 2002 and taught first, second and fourth grades, as well as serving as the K–8 Science Department Chair and the Associate Teacher Coordinator. In 2012, Alexa was named Lower Form Dean. For the next seven years, she facilitated the day-to-day operations of the Stuart Hall K–4 program, including faculty professional development, parent education and student discipline. She also collaborated closely with the other three divisions of Convent & Stuart Hall on curriculum and programming.

Building upon this collaborative spirit, Alexa was named Lower Form Dean of the K–3 program for both elementary divisions in 2019.

As her years of service attest, Alexa is dedicated to the Convent & Stuart Hall community and committed to its well-being and continuous improvement. After working on behalf of boys for many years, Alexa is excited to shift her focus to working on behalf of girls, a long-held passion. In college, she worked at the Women’s Study Center and her first master’s thesis focused on how media influences girls’ body images. While Alexa looks forward to leading a division devoted to girls, she also understands the value of providing coed programs and the school’s unique ability to deliver both single-sex and coed learning opportunities.

Alexa earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art and Art History from Colgate University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of San Francisco. In 2016, she completed an additional master’s degree from the Educational Leadership Program at the University of the Pacific.

Alexa and her family are excited to continue their enduring relationship with Convent & Stuart Hall as she takes on this new role.
