Anoushka | Grade 12

I love the balance between single-sex and coed. At Convent & Stuart Hall, I am able to get the best of both worlds.

Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is Math because I really enjoy problem-solving, and I love how there can only be one answer. It is amazing to think that math is universal and that people in different parts of the world are able to understand the same things that I learn about in class! I also love the feeling of accomplishment that I get when I solve a really hard problem and find out I got it correct.

Favorite School Activity
My favorite school activity is tennis, which is also my favorite sport. I have been playing tennis since I was a little girl, and it has been really fun to play competitively on a team these past few years. I look forward to every practice and each match because I know that, win or lose, it is still a fun experience.

Favorite School Tradition
My favorite school tradition is definitely Congé, which is a surprise day off from classes meant to celebrate everyone's hard work throughout the year! I love the excitement which leads up to the day, as well as the attempts at guessing when it will be. Congé brings us closer as a community, and most of all, I love that it is a tradition which connects all of the Students of the Sacred Heart because it is celebrated by all of the Sacred Heart schools around the world.

Favorite Space on Campus
My favorite space on campus is the Mother Williams Library because it is such a beautiful space to work in and also because of the incredible view. I love being surrounded by hundreds of books, and it is so peaceful to study there. It is always nice to glance up from my work and take in the view of the city right in front of me and watch the fog spiral across the bay and around the Golden Gate Bridge.

Best Part of Your Day
I really love to learn about new things and question different ideas. It is honestly difficult for me to pinpoint the best part of my day because every day is always different but equally amazing. I also enjoy seeing my peers and teachers in the hallway on my way to another class, so I believe that the combination of learning new things and spending time with my friends would have to be my favorite part of the day.

Favorite School Project
At the beginning of freshman year, I was assigned the Identity Project. As part of this project, I had to write a poem that explained who I was and create a movie to go with it. I decided to write my poem about my previous home, and I recollected various memories of when I was younger, which I associate with that home. I found this project to be a really fun experience because it allowed me to reflect on some of my favorite moments just as I was starting high school — a new chapter of my life. From the Identity Project, I came away with an understanding of the importance of living in the moment.

Benefits of Single-Sex Classes, Coed Community
I have benefitted from going to a single-sex and coed school because it has been really valuable to experience both environments. I find the combination of having the majority of my classes being single-sex with a few being coed to be advantageous because I do not feel as shy, and I can gain confidence before the majority of my classes become coed. I love the balance between single-sex and coed. At Convent & Stuart Hall, I am able to get the best of both worlds.

Future Career Path/Fields of Interest
Although I do not yet know which career I want to pursue, I am interested in STEM-related fields and also find the humanities fascinating. I love all of my classes and I am passionate about learning, which makes my future career choice a difficult decision. I am really excited to continue exploring new topics and discover where they lead me.

How You Felt Supported This Past Year
I love that although we had to be physically distanced from one another, the community still continued to strengthen. I am glad that we were able to stay connected through virtual school-wide meetings, and I am really excited for the return of more on-campus events and gatherings in the future. I now have a deeper appreciation for the little things I took for granted before the pandemic.
