Locations

• Grades K–3: Broadway drop-off zone
• Grades 4–8: either the north side of Broadway drop-off zone or the south side in front of Herbst House
• High school: Herbst House at 2201 Broadway (Broadway campus) and the southbound lane of 1715 Octavia (Pine-Octavia campus)

Start of the School Day

• Grades K–2: 8:15 a.m.
• Grades 3–8: 8:30 a.m.
• High school: 8:30 a.m.

Dismissal Times

Sibling Dismissal
If you have children in multiple grades, please pick them up together during the oldest siblings pick up time. For example, if you have a fourth grader and a first grader, please pick up both of your students at the fourth grade dismissal time.

We will need to keep arrival and dismissal moving as efficiently as possible for the safety of our students. Please adhere to all traffic and safety protocols and refrain from congregating in front of the school.

The easy-to-use FetchKids app provides more secure dismissal management for K–8 students, cuts down pick-up line congestion and wait times, and streamlines the entire process for everyone involved — parents, students and teachers alike — while increasing safety.

How it works: Open the FetchKids mobile app and select “Start Pick Up” before beginning your journey to campus — in a car, on bicycle or on foot. Teachers are alerted as parents/caregivers approach the school. Students are directed to a designated pick-up spot where a teacher or administrator matches each designated pick-up person or car with a student.

Expectations: There is an expectation for use whenever a child is picked up from campus for any reason.

Get started by building your “Pick-Up Team”: Please spend some time building out your “Pick-Up Team.” Here are two videos to give you an idea of what we are trying to accomplish and how to use FetchKids.

Please note: The registration email is only sent to one parent, who can add other adults to their “Pick-Up Team” with these steps:

• Open the app from the primary parent's account and navigate to the Profile page.
• Click on Adult Profile 
• From the top, click + ADD ADULT 
• Enter the email of the adult you would like to add to your team (parent, friend, relative). They will receive a notification to create an account.
• They should download the app and follow the instructions in the email they receive to log in.

Athletics and After-School Activities

Pick-up rules still apply for pick-ups from athletics, drama practice or any after-school activity. If your child is not outside and ready to board curbside, please circle the block.

A note about the Pine-Octavia campus: Athletic teams often use the gyms at Pine-Octavia or the Buddhist Center across the street. Octavia is busy and narrow; double-parking will create a hazardous situation. If you arrive early, either drive around the block or find a legal parking space. Do not pick up on Pine Street, which is a fast-moving thoroughfare with limited sight-lines as it approaches Octavia.

Traffic Commissioners

Traffic Commissioners are school administrators and staff in yellow vests who are on duty to ensure everyone’s safety. They help direct the path of travel for cars in the curbside lane and help students get in and out of their cars with all of their items so you can remain in your car. Please alert them to any disruptions you see, but do not approach them to talk about other business. And remember, we are all in this together!

Purpose

Convent & Stuart Hall is committed to creating a safe environment for students at all times, particularly during drop-off and pick-up. We are committed to partnering with our parents, neighbors and nearby schools to keep the flow of traffic running smoothly. We have designed our travel path in response to the city’s request to divert traffic off Webster and Vallejo Streets, utilizing Buchanan and Laguna Streets instead.

Procedure: The Single-Lane Queue on the Broadway Campus

• Drop-off and pick-up both use a single-lane queue. The queue is on the westbound curbside lane on Broadway.
• Traffic Commissioners will stop you from turning from Webster onto Broadway in either direction during drop-off and pick-up hours. Use Laguna or Buchanan to enter Broadway going west.
• The queue is designed to keep traffic moving smoothly. Please pull all the way forward. Do not attempt to double-park. Drivers should not get out of their cars for any reason.
• If you arrive before the assigned pick-up time, you will be asked to loop around the block (left on Fillmore, left on Pacific, left on Buchanan, left on Broadway).
• Traffic Permits Required: Display your assigned permit at all times while in the White Zone on Broadway. If you do not have your permit, park your car legally in the neighborhood and walk to the school.

• Do not drop-off or pick-up on Pine Street, which is a fast-moving thoroughfare with limited sight-lines as it approaches Octavia.
• If you arrive before your student is ready, you may be asked to loop around the block (left on Bush, left on Franklin, left on Pine).

For the safety of our students, please read the examples below to better understand proper drop-off protocols. 

Acceptable drop-offs: 

• A drop-off in the westbound curbside lane on Broadway and in the White Zone in front of the Pine/Octavia Campus
• A drop-off in a legal parking spot 
• Parking in a legal parking spot and walking your student(s) to school

Unacceptable drop-offs: 

• A drop-off in a driveway 
• A drop-off in a bus zone
• A drop-off in the middle of the street in a non-curbside White Zone location

Consequences For Traffic Procedure Offenses

In order to create a safe environment for students at all times, particularly during drop-off and pick-up, any unsafe behavior must be corrected. Expect the following actions in response to traffic procedure violations:

• 1st offense: Email from your child’s head of school
• 2nd offense: Meeting with your child’s head of school
• 3rd offense: Meeting with President Ann Marie Krejcarek to discuss your child's enrollment contract

High school students may not be picked up or dropped off by any ridesharing service in the area bounded by Green Street to the north, Laguna Street to the east, Jackson Street to the south and Steiner Street to the west. This protocol is essential to managing traffic near and around the Broadway campus and is an important part of our commitment to the city and our neighbors. Students who do not respect these boundaries may face disciplinary action.

3 Simple Rules That Always Apply to Pick-Up

1. Arrive after the published dismissal time with your vehicle permit on display.
2. Pull forward to the head of the line before stopping; if a curbside location is not available, circle the block. Do not attempt to park curbside or double-park.
3. Drivers must remain in their cars at all times. Traffic Commissioners and Escorts are on duty to help students get in and out safely.

5 Ways to Avoid the Traffic Snarl

1. On "Walk to School Wacky Wednesdays," traffic on Broadway is reduced by as much as 40%. Consider making every day a "Walk to School" day.
2. Secure bike racks are available on both campuses for students and employees who ride.
3. City transportation: Please consider public transportation if it is convenient.

A Dozen Ways You Could Disrupt the Flow of Traffic

1. Jaywalking
2. Allowing students to exit a vehicle in a non-curbside lane
3. U-turns
4. Double-parking
5. Parking in driveways, bus zones and red zones
6. Parking in the white zone during posted hours
7. Blocking an intersection
8. Dropping off or picking up passengers in a driveway or traffic lane
9. Horn honking, except as a warning of imminent danger
10. Use of cell phones or texting
11. Picking up or dropping off on Fillmore or adjacent streets
12. Drivers exiting the vehicle at any time (getting backpacks out of trunks, etc.)

Residents of the Panorama Condominium complex located at 2190 Broadway (at Webster) may use the white zone in front of their building more frequently this year due to building construction. Please be courteous and understanding of their circumstances as you approach our Broadway campus driving west on Broadway.
