Before School Keyboarding Class - NEW! - Grades 3-6 (The only 8:00 am class - SEPARATE FEE APPLIES) Hide

Type faster and with fewer mistakes! Get a hands-on introduction to the proper use of a computer keyboard. You will become more efficient with the correct use of the keyboard which is crucial to becoming more effective in your work.

Kinder Kids & Kindercamp (Entering Kindergartners) Hide

Kindergartners are offered an opportunity to become acquainted with a typical day. In a fun- filled environment, students are introduced to some of the daily routines in the classroom. They will begin their day with circle and calendar activities, tour the campus, participate in thematic activities and play indoors and outside. Your child can wear casual play clothes (no uniform).

Kinder Kids (Session 1 & 2 is CLOSED. Space available in Session 2 for Girls ONLY. Please contact Colleen McGarry to be placed on a waiting list) has a separate morning arrival and dismissal time (8:30am – 11:30am) to ensure a safe and quieter time for the children. Teachers and assistants will be outside daily to greet your child. There is no signing in or out during arrival or dismissal.
NOTE: this course runs all morning from 8:30- 11:30am. Classes are divided into single sex boys' and girls' sections.

Kindercamp is an extended version of Kinder Kids that goes into the afternoon. Stay and play with your friends! Do arts & crafts projects, play games, read stories and have fun playing into the afternoon. Classes are made up of both boys and girls.

Back to Basics Combo
Reinforce skills in reading, writing and math. This class combines all three to improve confidence and proficiency through individualized instruction based on each student’s specific needs. This class is especially for students who will benefit from academic reinforcement of the prior year. Loads of fun included!
Note: This class runs all morning.

Read, Write, Publish!
Learn to love to read and take the first steps to become an author! This class will engage in art-centered activities that promote reading and writing skills. Pop-up and hard-cover books will be created. Students will have plenty of time to read and be read to by other authors.

Math Maniacs
Play games to develop math skills! Discover estimation, problem solving, logic and critical thinking as you play chess and other math-minded games. Discover games of strategy, gain skills and have fun!

Hands On Science!
Gooey, slimy, slippery and strange! Explore the natural world with hands-on science, experiments and games. Gain experience in scientific method while playing with the wonders of the physical world.

Awesome Architects
Build towers, bridges and more in this interactive class. From LEGOS to cardboard and toothpicks, use everyday materials to discover spatial relations and the components of architecture including design and engineering.

Mostly Mandarin
Travel the globe to China in this class! Explore a cultural heritage that is rich and vibrant, sampling customs and crafts as you begin to learn a new language.

Fiestas!
This is a class to celebrate! Learn a traditional song, a bit of Spanish, do arts and crafts and join us on an exploration of a variety of celebrations that take place in Spanish-speaking countries. Cinco de Mayo, Día de los Muertos, Las Fallas, La Tomatina are a few of the fiestas we will sample.

Mad about Music
Do you love to sing? Does music make you want to stand up and dance? Learn new songs, write your own, play musical games, and sing and dance the morning away. We’ll play musical instruments to accompany our singing and even build instruments of our own!

Pee Wee Sports Skills (conditioning and climbing)
Join our action packed sports class! Explore various age-appropriate athletic activities learning coordination and cooperation. We’ll try our hand at basketball and baseball and a variety of other sports and use the climbing wall. The focus is on building skills, teamwork and sportsmanship while learning the FUNdamentals of a variety of sports and improving gross motor skills.

Reading & Writing Refresher
A summer refresher course in “The Basics” to reinforce skills. Increase reading comprehension through motivating activities focusing on oral reading, phonics, sight vocabulary and decoding. Learn to write effectively by focusing on sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, spelling and organization. This class is especially for students who will benefit from academic reinforcement of the prior year.

Math Refresher and Mastery
A summer refresher course in “The Basics” to reinforce skills in mathematics. Basic grade level math facts will be reinforced through practice and non-calculator computation as well as with hands-on activities, manipulatives, and fun and games. Gain success and improve your understanding of computation, multiplication, division and fractions. This class is especially for students who will benefit from academic reinforcement of the prior year.

Math Enrichment
Extend your conceptual understanding of computations: addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division and fractions. Expand your knowledge and develop your skills further playing a variety of math games and activities. Develop problem-solving skills and explore your mathematical horizons in this new class. For students at grade level mastery, who have an interest in exploring math conceptually.

Writer’s Workshop
Learn to love fiction and expand your own writing abilities. From poetry and storytelling to prose, learn about methods that authors use and create your own works of art. Learn the mechanics of writing and develop your own voice as an author in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. For students who are working at grade level and simply want more practice writing.

Geometric Challenges NEW!
Jump into geometry and explore form and spatial relationships using pattern blocks, tangrams, pentominoes, geo boards and three dimensional blocks. Create original geometric shapes in origami and build polygons in this hands on enrichment class.

LEGO® Engineering NEW!
Design, build and program motorized machines, catapults, pyramids, demolition derby cars, and other constructions out of LEGO® bricks. While exploring engineering, computer programing and physics, students develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Recycle, reduce and reuse. Study the environment and our relationships with it in this new class! Learn what your carbon footprint looks like and the concepts of green living. Explore ways to minimize our impact on the planet and how to conserve earth's resources.

Cool Chemistry NEW!
Fizz, bang, pop! Put on your goggles and white coat to see how and why these simple experiments work. Become a chemist and practice mixing, measuring and observing while you pop your rockets with Alka seltzer tablets, make invisible ink, pop popcorn in a test tube, make a bouncy ball by rubberizing glue and swirl a rainbow in milk. Watch solids turn to gases, colors separate and chemicals react in this new exciting class!

Guided Summer Reading

Election Connection NEW!
Who can be President? Explore what is behind the scenes of every American citizen's right and duty to vote during this exciting year, leading up to the 2008 Presidential Election. Read current events, follow the campaign trail, write a speech, create a mock election and delve deeply into the electoral process in this political and historical class.

Spanish
Vamos a charlar! Would you like to strengthen your conversational skills? Emphasis will be placed on listening and speaking in real-life situations. Students will practice grammar, verb conjugation and pronunciation. For beginning and intermediate students alike.

Get A Move On!
Get some exercise and take a break from your morning academic classes. Explore various athletic activities learning coordination and cooperation. Badminton, netball, hockey, soccer, T-ball and basketball are some of the sports we ’ll sample. The focus is on building skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. The class will take place in the Herbert Center Gymnasium as well as outdoors.

Explore your creative potential in our state of the art studio. Students will experiment with various media and will explore a variety of artistic expressions, including sculpting, painting, drawing and collage. Let your inner artist shine!

Kid’s Camp
Kick back with friends in the afternoon in our unique version of day camp.
A variety of activities is included. Enjoy fun-filled afternoons of arts and crafts, games, thematic activities, reading and free form play. A great way to spend a summer afternoon with friends.

Pee Wee Sports Camp
Join our action packed sports camp! Explore various athletic activities learning coordination and cooperation. Hockey, soccer, kickball and basketball are some of the sports we ’ll sample. The focus is on skill-building, teamwork and sportsmanship while learning the FUNdamentals of a variety of sports.

Sensational Soccer!
Join the fun in our beginning soccer class especially designed for younger players. From beginning strokes and strategy to footwork, the FUNdamentals of the game will be covered. Emphasis is on developing skills and sportsmanship and learning the basics of the game.

Toymakers
Stretch your imagination and curiosity and create something special to play with.
From wood, wheels and fabric to wiggly eyes, sparkles and sails, we will make and play with a variety of toys. From moving models to stuffed toys, you can create cars powered by wind or rubber bands, boats with spinning paddles, sublimely soft creatures, spinning tops and working parachutes.

Animal’s Planet
Explore the surroundings and habitats of a variety of the world’s creatures. From the Arctic to the rainforest, learn how animals adapt, survive and thrive on this planet called Earth.

Art at Heart
Open your eyes and expand your creativity in the class. Explore a variety of mediums while you draw, paint, create and discover the world of art.

Yoga
Relax and refresh through this ancient practice. Become more aware of your body through hatha yoga. Explore what it feels like to stretch & what it feels like to be still. Yoga postures, partner poses and simple breathing exercises will be introduced and practiced. Walking meditations and yoga nidra (relaxation) will give kids the chance to experience silence and stillness and to share their discoveries.

Basketball Fundamentals
Jump, shoot, score! Individual skills and training in all areas of basketball. Shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding and defensive techniques will be emphasized. Players will participate in daily team games.

Quilling
Discover the art & beauty of paper filigree, a great opportunity to try this historic art form. Learn basic coil shapes used to create intricate patterns to design many amazing projects. Separate fee to cover costs of all materials required.

Counselor in Training Program for Grades 7-9 Hide

This course runs all morning or all afternoon giving students an opportunity to work with younger children and develop interpersonal skills assisting in a classroom. Students will work closely with a classroom teacher as they develop responsibility, initiative and a sense of caring through hands-on and everyday activities in classes with younger children.

NOTE: A teacher ’s recommendation submitted with the application is required for this course. Separate fee applies.
