Summer 2013 at Convent & Stuart Hall


At the Convent & Stuart Hall Summer Program for high school students, we are committed to offering quality educational experiences for young men and women in the tradition of the Schools of the Sacred Heart.  

All Grade 9-12 programs take place at 1715 Octavia St, San Francisco, CA 94109. 

Is your student entering grades K-6? We have a program for elementary students, too. That program takes place on the Broadway campus at 2222 Broadway St, San Francisco, CA 94115.

Key Dates

Grades 7-12 Program Stuart Hall High School Campus
  • June 1 - ALL Program fees due. Please note that after June 1, payment in full is required.
  • June 4 - Last day for refunds (less the non-refundable deposit fee of $100.00. This fee will not be refunded even if a registered student does not attend the program.)
  • Classes:
    Grades 9-12: Monday, June 10 - Friday, June 28, 2013

Students

The student population during the summer consists of current students, students from other Bay Area schools and students from abroad. During the summer, all students are expected to behave in respectful and appropriate ways at all times. Parents will be contacted if inappropriate behavior occurs.

Daily attendance is taken each period. If your child will be absent or late, please notify the Summer Office.

Faculty for the Summer Program

Faculty for the Summer Program comprises primarily of Convent & Stuart Hall educators. We also have teachers from Bay Area independent, parochial and public schools. This experienced staff will create a welcoming and stimulating environment for all students. Some classes will be assisted by young Counselors-In-Training, a program for grades 6-8 students or by high school or college students.

Choosing Classes

Grades 9-12 Program Stuart Hall High School Campus
Classes are chosen according to individual need. Some classes may be accelerated learning or remedial work depending on the student. Some classes have set expectations and requirements like SAT Verbal/Math. Other classes, may be adapted to student need, such as the intensive study classes in English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish, and Physics. There are also a number of enrichment classes in Math, English, Spanish, and Technology. See the full list of classes here.

Student Guidelines

  • Students attending Stuart Hall’s Summer School are expected to follow the school rules. School rules will be reviewed in the Orientation Meeting on the first day of classes.
  • All students are required to wear appropriate school attire. No tank tops or “short-shorts” will be permitted. If the administration determines that a student’s dress is inappropriate, a parent or guardian will be contacted, and s/he may be asked to return home to change clothes.
  • During the summer, students are expected to behave in respectful and appropriate ways at all times. Parents will be contacted if inappropriate behavior occurs. Failure to comply may result in dismissal from program after notification of parents.

Enrollment

Grades 7-12 Program Stuart Hall High School Campus 
Enrollment is open until a class is full. Class size depends on the class. Generally classes sizes are limited to 15-19 students. The intensive classes are limited to 5-7 students allowing the teacher to address individual student need. Early enrollment is recommended as many classes fill quickly. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Every effort is made to ensure that students receive their first class choices. Classes may be canceled in the event of insufficient enrollment. You will be notified if this occurs.

Special Needs

At the end of the program, a teacher evaluation will be mailed to the student's home and to the student's high school. If necessary, a grade will be assigned and an official transcript sent. In case of special needs, please contact Reynolds Marquette at 415.345.5807

Fees and Deposits

  • Classes are priced differently. Please refer to the "Course and Price Overview Grades 9-12" document for this information.
  • A $100 non-refundable deposit will hold your place until June 1, at which time any outstanding balance is due. The deposit will NOT be returned if a registered student withdraws prior to or during the school sessions.
  • Students enrolled after June 1 MUST pay in full to register for classes.
  • Credit Cards Accepted via On Line Registration.
  • Checks payable to: Schools of the Sacred Heart Summer Program. Overseas payment can be made with an International Money Order.
  • No refunds after June 4.

Confirmation of Classes

Confirmation of all classes will be mailed two to three weeks prior to the start of classes. If a class is canceled you will be notified immediately. For the Grades 7-8 Program, the order of classes may change depending on scheduling needs and will be confirmed, if necessary, at orientation on the first day of classes. Enrollment is open until a class if full or canceled.

Snacks and Lunches

Please notify the Summer Office by phone,  415.345.5807, and in writing if your child has severe food allergies or issues. 

Traffic Information and Safety

Safety is a priority. Please obey all traffic laws. There is a designated white zone on Octavia Street in front of the main entrance. Please drop off and pick up your child at the white zone. Please do not park there for any extended period of time.

Grades 7-8 students are required to sign in and out of school. They must also provide a parent signed travel form that indicates that they may leave school unaccompanied or with another adult other than a parent.

First Day of Class

All students will assemble in the Columbus Room for registration at 9:00 am unless already on campus for class. Students will receive a schedule and general announcements will be made. Students will be escorted to their first period class by their teacher or by a summer assistant. This meeting is mandatory for all students. Parents are welcome to attend.

Daily Arrival

  • Please drop off your child in front of the School on Octavia Street using the white zone.
  • All students enter through the main doors and not the gate.
  • Upon entering, students must sign in at the front desk.
  • If students arrive early, they may wait in the courtyard or the Columbus Room. Please DO NOTdrop your child off before 8:45 am.
  • Early Arrivals: If a student consistently arrives before 8:45 am and has no scheduled class, an additional $200.00 fee applies for supervision purposes. If you feel your child will be arriving early, please include the $200.00 fee with the application.
  • All grades 7-8 students must provide a parent signed Travel Form that indicated when a student may leave campus and with whom. All grades 7-8 students must sign in and out daily.

Daily Dismissal

  • Morning dismissal for classes is at Noon.
  • Afternoon dismissal for classes is at 4:00 pm.
  • Please pick up your child in front of the school on Octavia Street.
  • Please remain in your car in the white zone and wait for your child.
  • Remind your child to sign out at the front desk.
  • NEVER PARK OR LEAVE YOUR CAR IN THE SCHOOL’S WHITE ZONE AT ANY TIME. YOU MAY BE TICKETED.

Early Arrival/Late Pick-up Fees

Grades 7-12 Program Stuart Hall High School Campus
  • If your morning-enrolled child consistently arrives before 8:45 am, s/he may wait in the courtyard or Columbus Room but an additional $200 supervision fee will apply.
  • If your morning-enrolled child is not picked up by 12:10 pm, he or she will be taken to the front office. A $25 supervision fee applies for each occurrence.
  • If your afternoon-enrolled child is not picked up by 4:10 pm, he or she will be taken to front office. A $25 supervision fee applies for each occurrence.
  • If a student has a signed Parent Travel Form on record permitting that student to leave school without a parent or guardian present, no additional fee applies.

Extended Care

There is no extended care offered on the high school campus.

Financial Aid

Unfortunately, there will not be any financial aid available in 2013. Limited scholarships are available to a separate program - the Convent & Stuart Hall Community Outreach Program. Please contact Sheryl Davis for more information  415.205.0806.
