Technology
Unkefer
The Unkefer Computer Lab provides an environment in which K-8 students, teachers, librarians and lab instructors collaborate on curricular-based projects. Through their years at Convent Elementary School and Stuart Hall for Boys, the students explore a variety of hardware and software applications, telecommunications media and the resources to which our school has subscribed. Critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, teamwork and presentation skills are a primary focus. We want the students to be knowledgeable, independent users of powerful computer applications. They learn to adapt easily and explore confidently as new technology is incorporated into the curriculum. They are committed to and bound by the Acceptable Use Policy so that they are informed and responsible members of our school community.
Stuart Hall for Boys
As an all-boys school, Stuart Hall offers technology classes within a rich, core curriculum, integrating active and experiential learning. We build on the boys’ strengths in technical tasks and willingness to take risks as they adapt these skills across a range of problems and subjects. They learn to stretch their skills in communication by working together on some projects and finding appropriate multimedia technology for presenting their work to their classmates, teachers and even on the school website.
Our K-4 students meet weekly for classes; grades 5-8 are scheduled for specific curricular projects. Teachers can schedule classes to meet the time needs of the lesson. Research, outlining, writing, math data, multimedia components and presentation are some of the factors considered in scheduling. The students have access to computers in the Unkefer Computer Lab, the Hoffman Library, and laptops throughout the school.
