Welcome to the Ellen Hoffman, RSCJ Library
The Ellen Hoffman, RSCJ Library serves the K-8 students of Convent of the Sacred Heart Elementary School and Stuart Hall for Boys. The library is often a lively place with an average of 22 classes each week visiting for read-aloud sessions and book talks, lessons in library and research skills, and selection of books from our collection of over 24,000 titles. Students use our library independently before and during the school day, and after school with parents or in the middle form After School Program.
The Hoffman Library offers:
- strong nonfiction collections in folklore, poetry, history, natural science, health, social science, biography, and parenting;
- extensive fiction collections including picture books, chapter books, transitional fiction, and a teen read collection;
- our Olivia Dalrymple Memorial Library of Recorded Books - a different and very popular way of enjoying literature, and especially appreciated by our families;
- a large collection of videos and DVDs for our learning community which is enhanced by a subscription to streaming video, granting access to a huge variety of resources, including Discovery Education, the BBC, PBS, the Library of Congress, and NASA;
- educational community access to 40 electronic subscription databases, among them Encyclopedia Britannica, Grolier Online, and the Gale Group, through networking with the other two libraries at Convent & Stuart Hall: the Williams Library at Convent High School and the Carroll Library at Stuart Hall High School.
- USEFUL INFO - access to dozens of safe and informative websites.
Our greatest strength is the warm welcome we offer to each student, teacher, and parent. In our library, you will find resources to stimulate the imagination, deepen understanding, and satisfy curiosity! Welcome to the Sister Hoffman Library!
