Child Study Team (CST)
The Child Study Team or CST meets weekly to discuss the special needs of students. The team is made up of the Headmaster, the two deans, the lower and upper form learning specialists, the counselor and the enrichment teacher. Also part of the process are the child's teacher(s) and his advisor(middle form). In most cases, the child's parents have been involved in discussions with the teacher before a referral is made to the child study team.
Children are referred to the Child Study Team for a variety of reasons, such as the following: possible learning differences in a particular area; enrichment needs; recent or ongoing emotional difficulties e.g. seems depressed; behavior problems e.g. interrupts constantly; or social issues e.g. has difficulty making friends.
Once a referral is made, the teacher is scheduled for CST. Together, the team develops a treatment plan, which is continuously reviewed and revised. Everyone involved with the child is apprised of the treatment plan if pertinent.
