Math Olympiads
Math Olympiad is an international math program for students in grades 4 and 5. The program aims to stimulate enthusiasm and a love for mathematics. Important mathematical concepts are introduced to students along with major strategies in problem solving. Students are encouraged to develop mathematical flexibility in solving problems while strengthening mathematical intuition. The overall program fosters creativity and ingenuity while providing for the satisfaction, joy and thrill of meeting challenges.
Grades 4 and 5 boys who choose to participate in Math Olympiad meet weekly for an hour, typically at lunch time. Club members explore a topic or strategy in depth or they practice for contests, using problems from Mathematical Olympiads Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools (or other sources). The highlights for students are five monthly contests from November to March.
Last year 150,000 students from 5,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads. All 50 states and 25 other countries were represented. For more information, please visit the Math Olympiads website.
