Performing Arts

Music at Stuart Hall is an important component of our co-curricular program. In addition to the regular music classes, boys have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular choral groups and/or the 4-school orchestra.

Boys Chorus is open to all interested singers in third and fourth grade at Stuart Hall. For many, this group is the first chorus in which they sing. Boys learn to sing in parts, stand in neat rows, and experience many different styles of music. Rehearsals require members to give up three lunch recess periods each week (but not lunch!). They sing at Philippine Duschene Mass, Lessons and Carols, Admissions Night, First Communion, and the Spring Concert.

Vocal Ensemble meets twice a week at 7:30 AM. Membership is by audition, and is open to middle form students at Stuart Hall. The group includes changing and unchanged voices, usually in three parts. Styles range from chant to popular. Students expand their vocal range, improve their vocal production, and have the opportunity to audition for various solos. The Ensemble sings at Philippine Duschene Mass, Lessons and Carols, the Spring Concert, Baccalaureate, and Commencement, as well as other occasional chapel services and events.

Any student who knows how to play an instrument is invited to play in the 4-school orchestra. The group meets once a week afterschool and performs at least three times a year. The jazz ensemble is a special subdivision of the orchestra and participation is based on an audition.
