Lower Form

Welcome from Angela Taylor

“Real boys need people to be with who allow them to show all of their emotions, including their most intense feelings of sadness, disappointment, and fear.  Real boys need to hear that these feelings are normal, good, and ‘masculine’…They need to be treated with the same kind of caring and affection we hope they’ll be able to express when they become the men of the next generation. They need to be convinced, above all, that both their strengths and their vulnerabilities are good, that all sides of them will be celebrated, that we’ll love them through and through for being just the boys they really are.”

excerpt from Real Boys by William Pollack

The lower form at Stuart Hall for Boys is a welcoming and purposeful environment where our students are supported and known. We have an experienced faculty made up of teachers who are committed to and truly enjoy the company of boys. The Lower School curriculum and instruction capitalizes on boys’ interests, natural curiosity and innate need to be challenged. We are dedicated to developing the whole child by providing a well-rounded education fostering spiritual, academic and social growth.

Our world is becoming ever more inter-connected and, in order to be successful, students need to be prepared to become global citizens. The realities of today’s society have altered the notion of what it means to be an “educated person”.   Being well educated in a modern context means that we can no longer turn away from the emotional fabric of children’s lives or assume that learning can take place isolated from feelings. Concurrent with a strong focus on reading, writing, and mathematics, our lower form faculty teaches our boys to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts, question biases and to follow their own moral compasses.

It is our hope that our boys, when they graduate, will be prepared on all fronts to be successful leaders of tomorrow. Through our practical and concrete implementation of the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria, our students are taught the value of hard work, integrity, collaboration, and inclusion. These qualities, in addition to a top-notch academic foundation, will prepare them to be effective and inspiring CEO’s, statesmen, fathers, husbands, and citizens.
