Owen | Grade 8

The school project I am most proud of is my "I Have A Dream" speech. Every year, the school holds a contest in which students are able to get up in front of the school and talk about their hopes and dreams for the world.

Favorite Subject
My favorite subject is Math. I really enjoy it because my teacher, Ms. Yuen, makes it fun and challenging. I like working with numbers and solving problems. I am also able to participate in Math Olympiad, which lets you do math problems in a fun and competitive setting.

Favorite School Activity
My favorite school activity is playing sports. I really enjoy playing on Stuart Hall teams since I'm able to play with my classmates and get to know them outside of the classroom. Playing on school teams builds great school spirit.

Favorite School Tradition
My favorite school tradition (aside from Congé, for obvious reasons) is the Calling of Names Ceremony, when everyone's name is called by the teachers and you officially "graduate" to the next grade level. It is nice because everyone is recognized for their efforts and is reminded that they are important to the school community.

Favorite Space/Classroom on Campus
My favorite space on campus is the new Social Studies classroom. I like it because there are lot of features that help make learning easier and more fun. There are movable desks and chairs, tech screens, and white board walls all over the room. During our Social Studies Class, my teacher, Mr. Gordon, often uses these features when we work in small groups.

Best Part of Your Day
The best part of my day is Advisory Study Hall. Advisory is a group of students from different grades that meet twice a week to study for school. I do my homework during Advisory so I have more time in the evenings. I also meet with my teachers to get help on assignments. What I like most about Advisory is the opportunity to meet boys in older grades and learn from their past experiences.

Favorite School Project
The school project I am most proud of is my "I Have A Dream" speech. Every year, the school holds an "I Have A Dream" speech contest, in which students are able to get up in front of the school and talk about their hopes and dreams for the world. I was given the opportunity to deliver my speech on taking time away from technology. It was great to be asked to present my speech, but I was most proud of the fact that I had the courage to stand up and deliver it in front of so many students.

Benefits of Single-Sex Classes, Coed Community
I have benefited from going to a single-sex school by having teachers that know how to teach boys in ways that channels our energy in positive ways. Having a class full of boys also allows us to be ourselves and build good friendships. I have benefited from going to a coed school because I have been able to make friends who are girls. It's fun to go on field trips with them during the school year.

Future Career Path/Fields of Interest
I would like to become an architect one day. I understand architecture uses a lot of math and I really enjoy math. At home, I also enjoy watching home improvement shows and helping my parents pick things out for our home.
