Technology
Unkefer
The Unkefer Computer Lab provides an environment in which K-8 students, teachers, librarians and lab instructors collaborate on curricular-based projects. Through their years at Convent Elementary School and Stuart Hall for Boys, the students explore a variety of hardware and software applications, telecommunications media and the resources to which our school has subscribed. Critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, teamwork and presentation skills are a primary focus. We want the students to be knowledgeable, independent users of powerful computer applications. They learn to adapt easily and explore confidently as new technology is incorporated into the curriculum. They are committed to and bound by the Acceptable Use Policy so that they are informed and responsible members of our school community.
Convent Elementary School
Our school is committed to the technological education of our students. This is represented by the emphasis that Convent places on girls' mastery of computer concepts and their ability to imagine innovative uses for technology across a range of problems and subjects. Girls’ native strengths of communication and creativity are built into the lessons to support their technology curriculum. We strive for a comfort level and confidence that access to computers, integrated curriculum and supportive teachers can ensure.
Our K-6 students meet weekly for classes; grades 7 and 8 are scheduled weekly for half of the school year. Teachers can schedule classes to meet the time needs of the project. Research, outlining, writing, math data, multimedia components and presentation are some of the factors considered in scheduling. The students have access to computers in the Unkefer Computer Lab, the Hoffman Library, and laptops throughout the school.
